Behind the cup

Classic red apple notes complimented by sweet honey greet the palate upon the first sip of this year’s Guatemala Pulcal, finished with rich hints of cocoa powder.

Each coffee is roasted to order. Orders ship in 1-2 business days.

STORY

Third-generation coffee farmer Maria Zelaya Aguirre owns and oversees her farm, Hacienda Carmona, with the help of her nephew Luis Pedro Zelaya Zamora. Filled with historical significance, Doña Maria carefully and intentionally looks over Hacienda Carmona. Her attention to detail and love for her land extends beyond coffee. She keeps heirloom rose varieties from Paris in her garden just below the terrace of the beautiful farmhouse once occupied by the President of Guatemala. Inside its walls hang pictures of the men and women who have run the outstanding grounds and transformed it into one of the most prolific farms in Antigua.

Through the rows of Typica and Caturra trees, you’ll eventually come to a group of rows that are Bourbon. These trees have lived beautifully, producing coffees of microlot quality for many years. Much like the aromatics of those Parisian roses, each of these coffee’s flavor profiles is infectious.
