The Tekangu Farmers Cooperative Society is made up of three washing stations (referred to in Kenya as "Factory"). Tegu, Karogoto and Ngunguru are all relatively larger factories in Central Nyeri. With over 2900 members and an average yearly production of 1.5 million kilograms, Tekangu is a leader in Kenya for exceptional coffees. The Tegu factory is of the most exciting in all of the powerhouse region of Nyeri. With a little over 900 members bringing cherry to the mill for processing, Tegu is growing in numbers each year. The particular lot is designated "AB" by the grading system they use to differentiate the size and width of beans. This process is used to be able to grade coffee using physical traits as opposed to qualitative, allowing for faster turnaround. The AB grade refers to the beans being of the 15/16 screen size. Exceptional picking, processing and drying have been the hallmark of the Tegu factory and this year is no exception. Using typical Kenyan-Processing techniques this lot was wet and dry fermented for a total of 72 hours before being dried on raised beds.
