Sourcing information: Cupping samples for espresso purposes is probably one of our favorite challenges at VCR. We’ve learned that you have to cup blind and you have to use your imagination, especially when you want the blend to change three times a year. After sorting through several tables of samples from Central America for this version, we landed on an old favorite from Guatemala. La Florencia made an appearance last season, and everyone loved the florals and candied fruit notes it brought. We use this alongside the Brasil Joao de Campos yellow catuai to balance out the acidity, add a touch more body, and bring out the amaretto and dark chocolate notes. This new version of Streetlevel will not disappoint the fans of last season’s offering, and it will surely win its share of new fans this season.
Preparation Recommendations: We always strive for Streetlevel to behave quite nicely on our La Marzocco Strada. We use Robur E grinders dosing in the 20 gram range. We shoot for 17-18 grams out (1.25oz) over 24-26 seconds, boasting a dark and reddish crema. This coffee doubles down as a very nice, balanced drip as well.
