Farmlevel Story
Tarrazu is a region in Costa Rica that sits roughly 70 kilometers from the capital city, San José. It is in the Western portions of the Cordillera de Talamanca; a mountain range that spans most of Costa Rica and Panama and contains some of the highest peaks in all of Central America. With cloud coverage resulting from its close proximity to both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, teamed with its mountainous altitude, Tarrazu’s microclimate facilitates slow coffee maturation leading to the refined acidity and intense flavors we’ve come to love.
Santa Rosa 1900 is a stunning micro-mill near the village Santa Rosa de León Cortés. They have been producing exceptional coffees for nearly a decade after being established by Gelberth and Efraín Naranjo. Now, the family continues to grow and process beautiful lots of coffee using state of the art de-pulpers and the stringent standards of patio and raised bed drying.
The Naranjo family’s network of farms has grown to fourteen this year. This lot comes from their farm El Trapiche, one of their highest farms. The attention to detail paid by the Naranjo family El Trapiche is awe-inspiring. The rows of trees cascade over the rolling hills in such uniformed precision, it is truly a sight to see. The variety of this lot is Catuai and it is fully washed using Santa Rosa’s impeccably clean Penagos de-pulper and fermentation tanks.
